The World Wide Web has become one of the most influential technological developments of the modern era. From information sharing and communication to education, e-commerce, healthcare, banking, entertainment, and digital governance, web technologies have transformed the way individuals, organizations, and communities interact with information and services. The continuous evolution of web standards, programming languages, development frameworks, and digital platforms has created a growing need for a strong understanding of both fundamental and contemporary web development practices.
The book Foundations of Modern Web Development has been developed with the objective of providing a structured and accessible introduction to the essential concepts, technologies, and practices involved in modern web development. It is intended primarily for students, beginners, educators, and readers who wish to establish a strong conceptual foundation before progressing to advanced web technologies and application development.
The book begins with an introduction to the Internet and the World Wide Web, explaining important concepts such as client-server architecture, web browsers, web servers, domain names, DNS, web hosting, and frontend and backend development. These concepts provide the foundation for understanding how web applications are created, deployed, and accessed.
The subsequent chapters introduce the three core technologies of frontend development—HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. HTML5 is discussed as the structural foundation of web pages, covering document structure, elements, hyperlinks, lists, tables, forms, multimedia, and semantic elements. CSS3 focuses on the presentation and visual design of web pages, including selectors, typography, the box model, layouts, Flexbox, Grid, responsive design, transitions, and animations. JavaScript introduces programming concepts that enable webpages to become dynamic and interactive, including variables, operators, conditional statements, loops, functions, events, arrays, objects, DOM manipulation, and form validation.
The final chapter focuses on modern frontend development practices, bringing together concepts such as responsive and mobile-first design, UI/UX principles, web accessibility, CSS frameworks, version control, Git and GitHub, performance optimization, browser compatibility, code quality, and frontend security. It also provides an overview of emerging technologies and trends, including Progressive Web Apps, artificial intelligence, component-based development, voice interfaces, serverless architectures, and WebAssembly.
