Synopsis

The rapid growth of the cosmetic and personal care industry has created an increasing demand for pharmacy professionals with sound knowledge of cosmetic formulation, quality assurance, safety evaluation, regulatory requirements, and product development. Recognizing this need, the Pharmacy Council of India introduced Cosmetics and Cosmeceuticals Theory (BP702T) as an integral component of the B.Pharm curriculum. This book has been carefully prepared to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject while strictly adhering to the latest PCI syllabus. Every chapter has been written in a logical sequence using clear and concise language to facilitate effective learning. The content integrates fundamental scientific principles with current industrial practices, enabling students to appreciate both the academic and practical aspects of cosmetic science. The book covers the historical evolution of cosmetics, skin and hair biology, cosmetic ingredients and excipients, formulation of skin care, hair care, oral care and personal hygiene products, herbal cosmetics, evaluation techniques, quality control, stability studies, cosmetic regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), product safety, and recent advances in cosmeceuticals. Special emphasis has been placed on evidence-based information, current regulatory guidelines, and emerging trends in sustainable and innovative cosmetic formulations. Illustrations, diagrams, tables, and summary points have been incorporated throughout the text to enhance
understanding and facilitate examination preparation. The book is intended not only for B.Pharm students but also for postgraduate students, teachers, researchers, formulation scientists, and professionals associated with the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Despite every effort to ensure accuracy and completeness, there is always scope for improvement. We
sincerely welcome constructive suggestions and feedback from readers, teachers, and professionals, which will help us improve future editions. We hope that this book will inspire students to explore the fascinating field of cosmetic science and contribute to innovation in the development of safe, effective, and high-quality cosmetic and cosmeceutical products.
