Synopsis

Pharmacy is a dynamic and ever-evolving profession that serves as a vital bridge between
pharmaceutical sciences and patient care. A strong foundation in General Pharmacy is essential for
every pharmacy student, as it introduces the fundamental principles governing the preparation,
formulation, dispensing, storage, and safe use of medicines. This textbook has been meticulously
prepared to meet the academic requirements of B. Pharm First Semester students in accordance
with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) New
Syllabus 2026.
The primary objective of this book is to provide students with a clear, comprehensive, and concept
oriented understanding of General Pharmacy. Every chapter has been written in simple yet scientific
language to facilitate effective learning while maintaining academic rigor. The contents systematically
cover the entire prescribed syllabus, including the history and development of pharmacy,
pharmaceutical dosage forms, metrology, prescription handling, pharmaceutical calculations,
incompatibilities, pharmaceutical aids, posology, and other fundamental concepts essential for
pharmacy education.
Special emphasis has been placed on presenting the subject in a student-friendly manner. Definitions,
classifications, diagrams, flowcharts, tables, illustrations, and practical examples have been
incorporated throughout the text to simplify complex topics and enhance conceptual understanding.
Important points and examination-oriented content have also been included to assist students in
university examinations and competitive assessments.
This textbook has been developed not only as an academic resource but also as a practical guide that
encourages analytical thinking and professional competence. We sincerely hope that this book will
help students build a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences and inspire them to excel in their
academic and professional careers.
The authors express their heartfelt gratitude to all teachers, researchers, reviewers, students, and well
wishers for their valuable support. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Mantra Publication
